<br /> <br /> <br />To: Honorable Mayor Adams and City Council <br /> <br />From: Julie Feier, City Manager <br /> <br />Date: November 1, 2007 <br /> <br />Subject: Weekly Update <br /> <br /> <br />U.S. Cellular settlement <br />documents were filed this week, and received preliminary <br />approval by the St. Louis County Circuit Court. U.S. Cellular has agreed to pay a total of <br />approximately $6.5 million in back taxes and attorneys' fees, and will pay future taxes. <br />The final approval hearing will be on February 21, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. U.S. Cellular will <br />mail a "Notice of Class Action Settlement and Approval Hearing" and a "U.S. Cellular <br />Municipal Tax Settlement Claim Form" to each Missouri municipality by November 19, <br />2007. A model ordinance should be made available in the near future. It will be the <br />same one being used to approve the Verizon Wireless settlement (we can separate out <br />the issue of the League contribution if Council chooses) except for the settlement date <br />and company. The ninety-eight page settlement agreement is available in the City <br />Clerk’s office. Mr. Mulligan’s memo is attached in its entirety. I have also included <br />Exhibit E which identifies the back taxes owed the City. The total owed is $35,688. U.S. <br />Cellular paid $20,337 June through October; the remaining back tax settlement is <br />$15,351. <br /> <br />property tax assessments <br />This year’s are out.
