To: Todd Antoine
From: Travis Newberry
Date: November 7, 2014
Re: Centennial Greenway Trail Count
Memorandum
Manual trail counts were conducted on the Centennial Greenway over three days in August 2014.
Data was collected for several hours at a designated point on the trail at the intersection of Melville Avenue
and Kingsbury Boulevard in University City, Missouri (indicated by the star in ). This section of the
Figure 1
Centennial Greenway is known to be heavily used by the students, faculty, and staff of Washington
University as well as by residents of the community. A similar count was conducted in 2013 one week
before Washington University began its fall semester at the same designated point. This year the count was
conducted during the first week of the fall semester. Conducting the count during this week had a
significant impact on the final count numbers compared to 2013. General environmental conditions were
noted because weather is known to have significant impact on bicycle and pedestrian activity ().
Table 1
Figure 1

TuesdayThursdaySaturday
8:15 AM-2:00 PM 8:30 AM-4:00 PM 8:00 AM-3:00 PM
Counting

August 26, 2014August 28, 2014August 30, 2014
Times

1,677 Trips2,203 Trips1,066 Trips
Trip Counts

Low: 75 FLow: 72 FLow: 76 F

Temperature

High: 98 FHigh: 92 FHigh: 88 F

NoneLight RainLight Rain
Precipitation
Weather Partly Cloudy, Mostly Cloudy, Mostly Cloudy,

Condition HotHotHot
Table 1
