The Washington University to Delmar section of the Centennial Greenway is known to be a popular
trail and this is reflected in the daily trip counts. On Tuesday 1,669 trips were counted over six hours and on
Thursday 2,197 trips were counted over approximately eight hours. On Saturday 1,062 trips were counted.
Typically, weekend counts are higher than weekday counts. This section of the Centennial Greenway is
heavily used by Washington University students traveling to class throughout the week and less so during
the weekend. This explains the higher weekday count as well as the nearly identical trip pattern on Tuesday

and Thursday (
Figure 3).
Figure 3
Annual Trip Estimates
It is estimated that 615,298 trips will be made on this section of the Centennial Greenway in 2014.
This estimate is significantly higher than the estimate of 217,953 for 2013. The difference is due to the
scheduling of the 2014 count while Washington University was in session compared to the 2013 count
which was conducted the week before Washington University began the fall term. The 2014 estimate
provides a more accurate depiction of the annual usage.
Figure 4
