Modes of Transportation
People enjoy the trails in many different ways. Most
trail users on the Washington University to Delmar section of
the Centennial Greenway use the trail to connect to places in
their community. Eighty-one percent of trail users were
pedestrians and 19% were cyclists. Eighty-eight percent of
female trail users were pedestrians and 76% of male trail users
were pedestrians.
Figure 7
Figure 9
Figure 8
On the Centennial Greenway 79% of the adult pedestrian users were walkers or runners. Nineteen

percent of the adults were cyclists. A very small percentage of the adult pedestrians were using the trail to
walk their dog or travel with children in baby stroller or bike carrier. According to the NBPD standards,
children should be counted if they are actively using the trail as a pedestrian or cyclist and if they are riding
in a baby stroller or a child carrier attached to a bicycle. There were only 68 child users counted over three
days of counting. Of those few children, 43% were pedestrians and 37% were riding in a baby stroller.
Nineteen percent of child users were cyclists or riding in bike carrier.
Figure 10 Figure 11
