Municipal Review
On June 21, after review of this proposal and public comments, the University City Parks Commission
voted to support the request to provide an easement along Greenway South for the University to
build and maintain the proposed improvements.
On July 13, after review of this proposal and public comments, the University City Urban Forestry
Commission voted 3 to 1 in support of the removal of 15-17 trees with the replacement of
approximately 42-43 new trees as well as groundcover.
On July 14, the University City Green Practices Commission reviewed the project and made some
comments regarding including more native species in the planting varieties. Generally, the Green
Practice Commission was supportive of the project.
Request
The Forest Park Parkway Bridge and ramp are inadequate for the capacity of users they serve. This
proposal by Washington University will create a state-of-the-art facility, add 27 trees, improve green
space and provide capacity for years to come. Washington University has engaged in an extensive
effort to ensure the design capacity is sufficient for future use and has conceived a design for the
ramp that would improve the experience for all users. This design requires changes to the ramp and
an easement to use vacant, underutilized property owned by University City. University officials and
their design team completed a thorough outreach process to review the proposal with residents in
surrounding neighborhoods to seek their input and to add their comments/suggestions to the design
review. The University also has shared this project with three University City Commissions and each
has endorsed this project.
In exchange for the easement, the University will build and maintain the pedestrian ramp and
landscape improvements as described in this proposal and maintain them in perpetuity.
Exhibits
1.GRG Memorandum November 7 2014
2.Ramp comparisons
3.Landscape Plans
4.Community Engagement
tƩƚƦƚƭğƌ Ʒƚ źķĻƓ ƷŷĻ tĻķĻƭƷƩźğƓ wğƒƦ Ʒƚ ƷŷĻ CƚƩĻƭƷ tğƩƉ tğƩƉǞğǤ .ƩźķŭĻ tğŭĻ ЊЋ
