Golf Pro contract termination.
Mr. Glickert asked if he read and understood that the City would not sign the
document to assume the golf carts’ cost in the lease but the City would continue to
pay the lease on the golf carts from fiscal year 2009 through 2010. City Manager
Julie Feier agreed that Mr. Glickert was correct.
Mr. Price moved for approval, seconded by Ms. Ricci and approved unanimously.
2. Golf Driving Range bid award
CITIZEN COMMENTS
Kim Loomis, 7421 Carlton
Ms. Loomis is the University City School District Director of Athletics. She felt that not
only would the driving range be an asset to the City by bringing in revenue but it would
assist in skill development and character education with the youth of the community.
The School District will work with the City to develop golf as part of its athletic program.
Jonathon Stern, 941 Alanson Dr
Mr. Stern was concerned with the lack of information put in the bid specifications and
thought this would produce cost overruns. Secondly he was not sure of the revenues
projected from the driving range. Lastly he did not feel the City explored all potential
areas of commercial use for the area.
Steven Goldstein, 712 Swarthmore Lane
Mr. Goldstein said that the proposal is consistent with community needs; is economically
sound; is architecturally well designed; has a state of the art lighting system, with low
and little intrusion; and involves a compromise making the last bucket of balls sold earlier
than originally proposed. He has no doubt that his property value in the Brittany Wood
Subdivision would continue to go up.
Larry Mass, 8131 Balson
Mr. Mass said he lived a couple of blocks from Ruth Park and thought the driving range
was essential to increase the use of Ruth Park golf course. He found enthusiasm for the
driving range among the players he had played with.
Stanford Carp, 911 Barnard College
Mr. Carp thanked the Council for their careful consideration and work. He felt the driving
range would provide the revenue needed to maintain Ruth Park.
Bruce Mazer, 1032 Laval Dr.
Mr. Mazer was not opposed to the driving range but was opposed to its current location.
He felt that it was not well thought out and felt it could be dangerous.
