had worked hard to remedy many of the complaints and Ms. Brot welcomes the idea of
partnering with University City’s surrounding communities.
Ms. Ricci said that the Ruth Park Learning Center was proposed to her in May of 2007
and she had not taken it lightly. She based her opinion on economics of reimbursing the
Ruth Park Golf Course to $100,000 a year and attendance has been decreasing each
year. This learning center proposal was studied one year previous to the Council
receiving it by the Parks’ Commission, the Parks’ Foundation, the National Golf
Foundation, the Forecast Golf Group Inc., and was designed by a well-known golf
design company. In the Study Session previous to the Council meeting, the Finance
Director prepared a five year financial forecast for University City which showed a $3.9
million dollar deficit in five years. Ms. Ricci invited all present and all concerned
residents to become involved in the upcoming budget study.
Mayor Adams thanked all the citizens who were present for their passion but also invited
citizens to become passionate when the Council deals with its budget. It is important to
become involved in your community in all aspects and not just on individualized interest.
Ms. Brot moved for approval, seconded by Mr. Wagner and was approved by the
majority, with one Nay vote from Mr. Glickert.
Mayor Adams called for a voice vote. The vote was six Ayes to one Nay by Mr. Glickert
and was approved by the majority.
4.
