Chris Vahlkamp, 7200 Waterman Ave.
Mr. Vahlkamp was present to speak on school district issues in particular Flynn Park
School, the status of the city and its infrastructure. Some of the issues he was concerned
with were the proper display of the American flag on the cell phone tower/flag pole in front of
Flynn Park School, the sink hole in front of Flynn Park School, the water line from Wellsley
to Flynn Park School which was never replaced, and the gas line along Waterman.
Shantiela Hall, 1224 Waldron
Ms. Hall said the ordinances passed by the City are vague. She had received many tickets
from University City and was advised that writing letters would only get her into a situation
she would not want to be in. She felt that pride would be created in its citizens if the City
created resolutions other than those accessing fines.
Gene Ruth, 7210 Waterman
Mr. Ruth expressed his displeasure with the lack of response and concern from the school
district over the genuine issues with which he had presented to them as a long-time teacher
and resident of U.City. He had hoped that the Council and its staff would help improve this
situation.
M. COUNCIL COMMENTS
Ms. Brot thanked all who attended the Harriett Woods ceremony of naming of the Harriett
Woods Civic Plaza and of the Harriett Woods Post Office in University City. She reminded
everyone that March 12, 2008 was the last day to register to vote for the April 8 municipal
election. Ms. Brot asked the City Manager to look into whether University City’s tower cell
phone tower ordinance needed to be changed if society needs to have many cell phone
towers much closer to each other in order to be able to use cell phones and wireless
internet access service as recommended in an article in the January 2008 issue of the
Missouri Municipal Review. She asked Mayor Adams if the joint land development with
Clayton and University City, the Trianon mixed-use condo building, was progressing. Mayor
Adams said that no construction would be started until the development met a certain
percentage of pre-sold units.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 p.m. .
Joyce Pumm
City Clerk
