He was also in favor of the proposed shower or <br />changing room for families because its benefits to the physically challenged. <br /> <br />Tom Evans, 605 Leland Avenue, expressed the same preferences as Mr. Higgins for pool <br />access and changing room facilities. <br /> <br />Shari LeKane-Yentumi, 6939 Dartmouth Avenue, offered recommendations: <br /> <br />enhancing year round recreation/fitness center at the Natatorium location to serve a <br />broader community base <br />consideration given to an indoor tennis facility <br />free lunch through St. Louis County. <br /> <br />Sam Kelner of 1176 Ursula and director of Inter-Mural Sports and Sports Clubs at St. Louis <br />University, spoke about the benefits of an indoor tennis facility. <br /> <br />Mark Platt, of 11527 Tivoli and tennis teacher in University City, also addressed the <br />advantages of indoor tennis and suggested an additional grant resource. <br /> <br />Mayor Adams then declared the Public Hearing closed. <br /> <br />AGENDA ITEM # 3 - MendelI-Trenton Storm Channel Project Assessment Public <br />Hearinq: <br /> <br />The City Manager stated that he recommended setting 7:30 p.m. on Monday May 19 in <br />these Council Chambers for a public hearing on a proposed assessment of costs to <br />benefiting properties for the project, with notice of proposed assessment sent to each <br />property owner. <br /> <br />He reported that the local share of the project is $56,000. Representatives of the <br />seventeen properties in the block pointed out at the last public hearing that they have <br />suffered from erosion of property and Iow property values for many years. They <br />maintained that the project should be considered restoring lost property rather than gaining <br />new property. For all these reasons, members of City Council have suggested that <br />proposed assessments be greatly reduced from the typical 50% ($1,650 per property) to a <br />much smaller amount based on the size of the area restored for use. Ownership of <br />property does not change, just the amount of useable space restored. <br /> <br />Mr. Ollendorff offered the following proposal for assessments ranging from $100 to $300 <br />for the thirteen properties with restored rear yard area: <br /> <br />Mendell/Trenton Channel Enclosure <br />Proposed Assessment Roll <br /> <br /> <br />
