Session 1888 <br />June 2, 2003 <br /> <br />Michael Thelen, 943 Morehouse Lane, stated that he was against spraying and <br />did not welcome the trucks in his neighborhood. <br /> <br />Dana Barhard, 7104 Northmoor Drive, advocated for an integrated approach to <br />mosquito management and coordinated efforts with surrounding communities. <br /> <br />Irv Logan, 1336 Waldron Avenue, (retired State of Missouri conservationist), <br />suggested the Council consult with Jane Stevens Arduzza & Mike Arduzza <br />(entomologists) and Dept. of Agriculture, University of Missouri School of Natural <br />Resources. He recommended the enforcement of current property laws <br />pertaining to property upkeep, vacant lots, debris, etc. and encouraged working <br />with surrounding communities. <br /> <br />Laura Newman, 1140 E. Parkedge Lane, noted the bogs in Heman Park and said <br />that she opposed spraying <br /> <br />Kay Drey, 515 West Point Avenue, urged precaution and proposed funding an <br />employee to oversee neighborhood watchdog committees for destroying <br />breeding habitats <br /> <br />Dolly Darigo, 553 Mapleview Drive read a statement from Saundra Lowes, 7425 <br />Teasdale, who considered fogging a health hazard and favored the use of <br />larvacides, fines. Ms. Darigo stated her own concern for the effect of spraying on <br />the eco-system. <br /> <br />Loretta & Monika Bryant, 7863 Milan, (President of Neighborhood Association of <br />Belmont Hills & Mendell Drive), suggested consulting the Golf Course to see <br />what they use. <br /> <br />Monika Bryant, 7863 Milan asked that there be no spraying and suggested using <br />organic methods (like nematodes). <br /> <br />Nadim Kadafani, 7312 Chamberlain Avenue, urged using precaution and organic <br />methods. He objected spraying without advanced knowledge. <br /> <br />Jim Holsen, 419 E. Argonne Drive (St. Louis Audubon Society), provided Council <br />with documents on the subject. He expressed concern on the effect of spraying <br />on area birds. <br /> <br />Mayor declared the public hearing closed at 8:45 p.m. <br /> <br />Ms. Welsch stated that she considered spraying a greater health risk than the <br />Virus itself and called on County and all municipalities to conduct an extensive <br /> <br />Page 8 <br /> <br /> <br />
