Director, Scott Hafertepe, does not anticipate a major increase in residential property
tax revenue, and assumes about $2,250 per pupil in State Foundation Formula funding
(which is based on the FY 07 student enrollment). He also expects a loss of Prop C
Sales tax dollars of approximately $200,000, based on the FY 08 student enrollment,
which is less than FY 07. Looking forward, because of the continuing decline expected
in enrollment in FY 10, the district expects to lose $500,000 in State Foundation
Formula funds in the FY 10 school year. Thus, the District is looking at all areas of the
budget for ways to cut costs, including staff reductions in the schools to minimize the
District expected deficit. No final decisions were made at the meeting. Mr. Hafertepe
will begin negotiations regarding salaries, benefits and retirement with the teachers’
union shortly.

March 27University City Historical Society
On Thursday, at 7 pm the is hosting a
lecture by preservationist, Esley Hamilton titled The Historic Preservation Movement,
about how the historic preservation movement got started and how it has evolved and
picked up momentum under after World War II.
