programs, and investments <br />sustainable manner. <br />Infrastructure Investment <br />Most groups indicated that a priority for future spending should be in renewing and modernizing the <br />Combined sewer and water underground infrastructure as well as <br />modernizing sewer and water service in general were noted as needed projects. Participants also called <br />for the private utilities to develop closed relationships with City Hall and that communication improve <br />regarding outages, road closures, and scheduled maintenance projects. A general point made was that <br />rd <br />capital improvement projects need to be evenly spread throughout the City, but that the 3 ward in <br />particular needed a targeted, robust infrastructure investment effort to modernize its residential <br />neighborhoods. There was interest in City or business district provided WiFi and other participants <br />proposed a publicly-owned, citywide fiber optic network that would function as a utility. Some <br />participants were interested in the City adopting <br />not requires, the use of sustainable infrastructure when appropriate and realistic, with a specific idea <br />being a grant or tax abatement program to convert existing surface parking lots to permeable <br />pavement. <br /> <br />Human Relations Initiatives <br />Although a less emphasized goal that other topics, some groups noted the need to continue to <br />commitment to building constructive relationships across University City and celebrating its diversity. <br />relationships and programming should exist to forge partnerships across racial, ethnic, and religious <br />demographics, as well as foster interactions across the different wards and geographic sections of the <br />community. <br />Next Steps <br />The vision workshop lays the foundation for the community-wide vision that identifies the long-term <br />role and character of University City and the projects and improvements that will be desirable in the <br />future. Based on the Visioning Workshop and previous steps in the planning process, preliminary <br />planning goals and objectives will be prepared. <br /> <br />
