To create a healthier and more sustainable community, U City will develop a plan to <br />increase density around metro stations by modifying the zoning regulations for detached <br />living quarters for single-family homes adjacent to alleys in order to provide living <br />quarters for elderly and millennial members of multigenerational families. <br />Community Facilities & Infrastructure <br />Page 73: Create and integrate language using the racial equity lens for investments in <br />parks and amenities that bring the same benefits to the Third Ward enjoyed by the rest <br />of the community. <br />Re-title “Environment Features” section in chapter as “Sustainability.” Open the <br />Sustainability section with this vision: <br />Sustainability <br />U City will establish itself as a leader in sustainability, conservation and pollution <br />reduction. <br />Include the following goal statements: <br />U City will: <br />Create a plan to become energy net zero for city buildings and city owned <br />transportation by 2025.Theplan willinclude energy efficiency audits and <br />renewable energy investments, following the guidelines of the Energy Efficiency, <br />Renewable Energy and Greenhouse Gas Reduction Policy (Ordinance 6956). <br />Model cost effective energy sustainability for its residents and develop education <br />programs and financial resources to support residents in attaining the goal of <br />household net zero energy performance. <br />Develop a plan to reduce C02 emissions from its city fleet of vehicles as a <br />strategy to improve air quality. <br />Continuously review and improve its recycling and composting practices to <br />increase residential and business participation. <br />Work to provide environmental education on ecosystems and work to restore <br />natural habitats using local expertise and enhance and improve land use and <br />open spaces in the city. <br />Work to mitigate local flooding from the River Des Peres, better manage storm <br />water and develop strategies to reduce potable water use. <br />Review its Green Building practices with an eye to incorporating guidelinesand <br />components of LEED and Energy Star, as appropriate, in developing sustainable <br />operations and maintenance practices for existing buildings and facilities. <br />U City Boards and Commissions will review and integrate the Sustainability <br />Strategic Plan (adopted by the City <br />Page 6 of 7 <br /> <br /> <br />
