Session 1894
August 18, 2003
the issue of safety the engineers advised the design used today is safer than the
curb design of the existing pool.

Mr. Lieberman asked if engineers had investigated the successful 70-year safety
record of the existing 8-inch curb.

Ms. Welsch stated that she just would reiterate the point Mr. Lieberman said. She
would be interested in knowing if the pool staff could give us any report on
problems that we've had with the curb. She has not heard of any. She'd
certainly be interested in hearing about those by Saturday when we have our
study session.

Mr. Sharpe asked if there is a cost factor relating to the curb and to the slope.
If there is one, or if it is nominal, he would like to know the difference.

Mr. Ollendorff said engineers advised there would be a substantial cost increase
to redesign and install a different system that that called for now. It would cost
much more.

Mr. Wagner said there is the same issue with the kiddy pool. He requested
details for the Saturday work study session.

ADJOURNMENT

Mayor Adams reminded Council members of a study session, Saturday, August
23, 2003 at 9 a.m. in the EOC Room in the basement of this building.

Mayor Adams announced that the next regular Council Meeting will be on
September 15, 2003 at 7:30 p.m. Additionally, Saturday, September 14, 2003
Washington University will hold its 150th Anniversary celebration.

Ms. Colquitt announced the Soap-Box Derby and Race for the Children on
September 30, 2003, and that school supplies will be dispensed at Heman Park
at the city-wide picnic.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:40 p.m.

Leisha Meine Forsythe
City Clerk

Page 12
