A special council meeting for public input into the budget will be held <br />on April 14 at 6:30 PM. A public meeting to discuss the proposed budget will be held on <br />May 12 at 6:30 PM. The public hearing on the final City budget will be on June 1 at <br />6:30 PM. There will be a council study session on the CDBG process on April 21 at <br />5:30 PM, with a separate public hearing for CDBG funding on a date to be determined. <br />For questions on CDBG or the City budget contact Deputy City Manager/ Finance <br />Director Janet Watson at 505-8537. The Economic Development Retail Tax Board <br />public hearing is scheduled for April 24, at 7:00 PM in the EOC Room (basement) of <br />City Hall, 6801 Delmar Boulevard. Any questions or requests for information can be <br />directed to Lehman Walker, Director of Community Development at 505-8502. <br /> <br />tax initiatives <br />Should Council wish to discuss placing on an upcoming agenda, the <br />earliest opportunity would be the August 5, 2008 Primary Election. The deadline or <br />closing date for submitting certification of election forms is May 27, 2008. The next <br />general municipal election would be April 7, 2009. The closing for certification of <br />election forms is January 27, 2009. The next available election date after the August ’08 <br />election would be the November 4, 2008 General Election, which is generally not a <br />good time for municipal ballot measures due to crowded ballots. A supplemental <br />election could be held on February 3, 2009. Council will need to decide during your <br />budget meetings if you would like to proceed with either of the sales tax options for the <br />August ’08 election. A detailed election calendar is included with your attachments. <br /> <br />one-quarter cent Economic Development Sales Tax <br />To proceed with an additional , <br />the Council would need to pass similar initiative language to that which was passed on <br />May of 2006, by Ordinance No. 6634. The City Council imposed a sales tax at the rate <br />of one-fourth of one percent on all retail sales made in the City subject to taxation under <br />Chapter 144 RSMo. The August 2006 election asked qualified voters of University City <br />“Shall the City of University City, Missouri impose a sales tax at the rate of one-fourth of <br /> <br />
