Each Council <br />Member will need to appointment one individual to the GPC. The GPC will assist the <br />City in becoming green both within our operations and throughout the community. <br />Residents are encouraged to apply to be on this committee, which will make <br />recommendations on how the City should move forward in a formal effort to reduce its <br />environmental footprint. Join your neighbors at The Green Center for an afternoon of art and nature <br />activities in our outdoor spaces. Celebrate spring with music, art exhibits, and a variety <br />of children's activities. Watch artists paint in Kaufman Park. Purchase fine arts and <br />crafts from local painters, photographers and sculptors—just in time for Mother's Day. <br />Their second annual event includes something for everyone. Round out the day with <br />prizes, refreshments and a native plant sale. There is no better place for connecting <br />nature, art and family fun than The Green Center! Admission to the Spring Arts Festival <br />is free. <br /> <br />University City Children’s Center will host afundraiser on Friday, April 11 <br /> in the <br />Council Chambers. The reception begins at 7:00 PM, music begins at 7:30 PM. Nate <br />Kaufman will operate the spotlight as a part of the event. Everyone is invited to come <br />out and enjoy local musicians, food and wine. Featured musicians include Melissa <br />Brooks, cello, John McGrosso, violin, Dan Rubright, percussion, and Lynn Rubright, <br />storyteller. Tickets are $25.00/person. For reservations call 314-726-0148 or email <br />kschwetye@uccc.org. <br /> <br />MSD <br />Monday night a representative of attended the Council meeting to provide an <br />Clean Rivers, Healthy Communities Program <br />overview of the . The goal of the <br />program is to enhance knowledge about our system, which is the fourth largest sewer <br />system in the country, and share information about proposed improvement efforts. <br />Many areas around University City have combined sewer and storm water systems, <br />which dump directly into the River Des Peres. Residents dumping illegal chemicals, <br />hair, grease, tampons and cleaning materials into the system add to the complications <br />faced by MSD and place their own sewer lateral lines at risk. MSD should be following <br />up with Deputy City Manager Watson regarding the requested maintenance map in the <br />next month. If you are interested in participating in or coordinating a River Des Peres <br />clean up for the main stem or one of its tributaries, contact the Missouri Stream Team <br />Program and or the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District. MSD partners with <br />community groups such as Missouri Stream Team on clean-ups by providing supplies <br />and trash dumpsters for the disposal of trash removed from the streams.
