6. Ms.Welsch indicated her understanding that the City has
offered to pay for electricity, refuse collection, and sewer
charges, but is not willing to pay for mowing the lot.

Ms.Welsch suggested an agreement that if the property
becomes a University City park, then the City would accept
responsibility for mowing, as in all other City-owned parks.

Comments: Ms. Feier disagreed with the previous suggestion.

Mr.Wagner asked whether SMS volunteers could do the
mowing.

Mr. Glickert asked if the City could provide the mowing service
at a deep discount.

Ms. Feier responded that the City could arrange with their
mowing contractor to mow the Sutter-Meyer lot at the City rate,
which would be lower than SMS could acquire it.

As there was no consensus on this point it was referred to
Committee discussion among City staff and SMS for resolution.

Mr. Sharpe asked for further Council comments.

Ms. Brot wanted it recorded that while she is a charter member of SMS,
she is not a member of the SMS Board of Directors, and believes she
does not have a conflict of interest in subsequent Council voting on SMS
issues.

Ms. Brot stated that one of the metrics in hiring our City Manager was her
interest in historical aspects of the City. She said U. City citizens are all
proud of our history, and she encourages the City and SMS to work in
harmony.

Ms. Brot continued that historical museums are valuable, and that they do
more than just replicate historic period appearances. They support civic
pride and provide educational opportunities in conjunction with schools.

Ms. Brot said her final point was that while recognizing the tight budget
situation the City is in, it should be remembered that the Council had
made the decision to acquire the Sutter-Meyer property, and its main
reason was for preservation. She pointed out that SMS will not diminish
the value of the property, but will only enhance the value. She hopes we
can have an amicable co-existence with SMS.

Mr. Sharpe adjourned the meeting at 3:00 p.m.

Submitted by Councilmember Robert Wagner
