Let’s Talk About It…” Another round of “ discussion grants has just been announced. “Let’s Talk About It” grants are sponsored by the American Library Association and the Fetzer Institute. The library received three previous grants to sponsor discussions of Jewish Literature, which were led by scholars Michael Castro and Dr. Howard Schwartz. The new $2,500 grant will fund a reading and discussion series around the themes of “Love and Forgiveness.” The series will begin in early 2009 and be led by Victoria Thomas bequest from the estate of Jarvis Thurston The library also received a major . Dr. Thurston was a professor of English at Washington University and chair of the department for many years. He and his wife, the poet (and Poet Laureate of the United States) Mona Van Duyn, were founders and editors of the acclaimed literary quarterly Perspective. Ms. Ballard has confirmed that outside of their scholarly pursuits, both the Thurstons enjoyed relaxing with a good murder mystery and were regular library patrons. Their gift of $50,000 will fund the purchase of thousands of new mysteries and books of poetry over the next several years. The library is very grateful for this gift.
