To: Honorable Mayor Adams and Council
From: Julie Feier, City Manager
Date: October 10, 2008
Subject: Weekly Update
Flood Update:
SEMA reported 512 properties in University City with flood insurance filed
claims based on the September 14 flood.
From the information provided it
appears, insurance companies paid out $693,019, plus the deductibles paid by
residents at $68,750. We are still unclear on the number of or dollar amount lost
by uninsured individuals. The FEMA assessment of the flood-impacted areas is
not out yet, it should capture the damage to all houses both those insured and
uninsured. No definitive numbers are available until the individual assessments
are completed, post FEMA declaration.
The MSD deadline for submittals is 30 days from an event, that means anyone
with a backed up sewer needs to file with MSD no latter than Tuesday October
24 hours a day, 768-6260
14. The number is available . Multiple calls delay
response, as MSD is overwhelmed with calls. No assistance is being provided in
areas with overland flooding (even if there were backups involved.) Residents
who received a denial letter and felt they should have been covered due to no
flooding, can appeal thirty days from the receipt of the denial letter. Appeals
must be made in writing and include as much documentation as possible.
Contact information is included in the denial letters. There are no packets to
distribute. If FEMA provides assistance, the $2,400 will be deducted from their
reimbursement.
Americorp will be working on houses until October 15. They are no longer
accepting new requests for assistance. New City Fellowship continues to
Interested volunteers should
provide assistance, but is in need of volunteers.
contact Andrew Stern at 280-4397.
We are still in a holding pattern for FEMA, the request is on the President’s desk.
Missouri Representatives from both sides of the Legislature from both major
parties have expressed their desire for assistance, now, unfortunately, all we can
do is wait. Thank you to Council for your assistance in contacting them directly.
