Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District Flood Report for University City <br />Background <br /> As you are aware, severe rains struck the St. Louis area on September 14, 2008. These <br />rains were 100-plus year storms and devastated neighborhoods throughout St. Louis City and St. <br />Louis County, including University City. <br /> The storms and their aftermath are unprecedented in the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer <br />District’s (MSD) history. MSD receives approximately 500 calls related to a number of issues <br />during an average week. However, in first 36 hours after the storm, MSD received over 1,700 <br />storm related calls. <br />Flood Response Update <br />As of October 10, 2008, MSD has received over 7,900 calls related to the September 14 <br />storm. In the University City area alone, there were 547 calls related to the storm, and we have <br />addressed approximately 465 basement back up calls. The remaining calls are under <br />investigation. This constitutes 13 percent of the total basement back up calls MSD received as a <br />result of the September 14 storm. <br />Along with crews handling emergency response, within two days of the storm MSD had <br />field crews in the creeks and River Des Peres evaluating blockages and sewage spills. At this <br />time, MSD has completed repair of all known sewage spills and broken pipe, as well as resolving <br />all known creek spills in the University City area. MSD is currently in the process of addressing <br />the blockages of creeks and the River Des Peres in the University City area. MSD is also in the <br /> <br />
