Recycling Marketing Proposal
City Manager, Ms. Feier asked the Council how they wanted to move forward
and to what extent, on the Recycling Public Education Campaign, as it was an
unbudgeted item.

Ms. Ricci asked the City Manager to confirm that recycling information will be
sent in all forthcoming bills and any other correspondence that is addressed to
the residents. She stated that anytime residents come to City Hall for permits,
pay bills etc, they should be given recycle information. Ms. Ricci also asked that
the recycle campaign material and information be distributed to neighborhood
associations and trustees. Ms. Feier agreed that some brochures were produced
for distribution with the small amount that had been budgeted.

Mr. Price asked the Director of Public Works Ms. Shields-Benford if some of the
money received from the U.City Schhols’ recyclables could help offset some of
the campaign costs. Ms. Shields-Benford stated that University City is not the
schools’ chosen trash hauler. She stated that the schools are directly receiving
some money for recycling from their hauler.

Mr. Sharpe, Jr. asked Ms. Shields-Benford if recycling containers were being
placed in the City parks. Ms.
Shields-Benford said she would check on the status of it.

Mr. Crow stated the need to reach out to the boy scouts/girl scouts for help in
distribution. Ms. Shields-Benford stated the department has been in contact with
the scouts and will partner with them.

Mr. Glickert stated that there is a big spread between the two proposals. He felt
the promotional material should be kept within the City limits. Mr. Glickert asked
what the status of working with the Scouts was and if it could be used in
conjunction with the collection of food for the hungry.

Ms. Feier asked the Council if they would like to make a motion to proceed if
commitment from the Scouts were obtained.

Mr. Crow said he was concern over the cost of the poster printing and motioned
to support the approval of the $19,500 package.

Mr. Price stressed the importance of partnering with the schools to teach the
students the importance of recycling.
