H.R. 1: American <br />The House and Senate reached an agreement regarding the <br />Recovery and Reinvestment Act <br />, a piece of legislation aimed at stimulating the United <br />States’ economy. Included in this bill is $4 billion to support state, local, and tribal law <br />enforcement. <br />$2 billion for the Byrne JAG formula grant program; <br />$225 million for Byrne competitive grants; <br />$225 million for Violence Against Women programs, of which $175 million is for <br />the STOP grants and $50 million is for the transitional housing assistance grants <br />program; <br />$1 billion for the COPS Office for the hiring and rehiring of additional career law <br />enforcement officers and civilian public safety personnel. The bill waives the 25 <br />percent local match and the $75,000 per officer cap; <br />$40 million for competitive grants to provide assistance and equipment to local <br />law enforcement along the Southern border and in High-Intensity Drug Trafficking <br />Areas to combat criminal narcotics activity stemming from the Southern border, <br />of which $10 million shall be for ATF’s Project Gunrunner; <br />$225 million for Indian Country grants, $100 million to be distributed by the Office <br />for Victims of Crime; <br />$125 million for assistance to law enforcement in rural areas; and <br />$50 million for Internet Crimes Against Children initiatives. <br />The Department of Justice will be required to submit a spending plan to Congress within <br />60 days of enactment of the legislation. Through the Stimulus Package, there will be <br />Economic Energy Community <br />additional opportunities to request funding through <br />BlockGrants, <br /> to tackle long-standing projects such as the funding to upgrade street <br />lighting and reduce our annual electrical which is over a half a million dollars. <br />The I-64 project <br /> has some important news to share with you, concerning roadways <br />Forest Park <br />through. As members of our stakeholder groups or nearby organizations, <br />whose employees or guests may be impacted by these changes, we wanted to share <br />this information with you before it is sent to the general public. The Hampton and Wells <br />intersection will close on Monday, March 2, and will remain closed until Friday, May 22, <br />for reconstruction of the intersection into a new roundabout. A new bicycle and <br />pedestrian underpass is also being built between I-64 and Wells, crossing under <br />Hampton. During construction, a bicycle and pedestrian path will be maintained through <br />the Wells and Hampton intersection until the new underpass is opened. Within Forest <br />Park, traffic will be closed off at the following intersections as motorists approach the <br />work zone: <br /> On the west side, motorists will be detoured at Wells and Tamm, although <br />access on Wells to the Zoo South Parking lot will remain open. <br /> On the east side, motorists will be detoured at the traffic circle at Wells and <br />McKinley by the Jewel Box. <br /> On the north side, motorists will be detoured at the traffic circle at Washington <br />and Concourse by the World's Fair Pavilion. <br /> <br />
