To: Honorable Mayor Adams and Council
From: Julie Feier, City Manager
Date: April 3, 2009
Subject: Weekly Update
SEMA representatives met with residents from the east side of Wilson on
Thursday night. A total of 21 residents attended the meeting. We now have 24 of
the 26 property owners interested in selling.
The Mayor forwarded letters to the
appropriate State and Federal officials requesting the expansion of the Corps of
Engineer’s study area to include the entire City and requesting their support for the use
of MSD funds for our grant co-pays going forward on Corp of Engineers related
buyouts. MSD responded to the questions generated at the February meeting directly
and City staff emailed/mailed responses to the questions generated by the green
comment cards this week. Copies of the questions and responses are available on the
City’s website and at the library.
property
Senate Bill 711 passed in 2008 prescribes new procedures regarding setting
tax rates
. St. Louis County recently provided preliminary assessment data to the City
and per those amounts the preliminary rates would change as outlined below. These
rates are for information only and are not required to be approved by the City Council.
Because the property assessments did not drastically change, we can expect little
change in the property tax rates. Residents will receive an estimated bill with these
preliminary rates from all appropriate taxing authorities.Later this year, St. Louis
County will distribute draft and then finalized assessment data to the City. The final
rates will be calculated at that time and the City Council will approve those rates as in
past years. Please remember that the City’s portion of the residential property tax rate
is only approximately 10% of the total tax bill. Attached is more detailed information
about the rates.
Residential Property Tax Rates 2008 2009 Preliminary
City – General Revenue 0.513 0.524
City – Pension 0.144 0.144
City – Debt Service 0.042 0.054
TOTAL CITY RATE 0.699 0.722
Library 0.223 0.231
TOTAL RATE INCL.
