Mr. Burke spoke in opposition <br />to Bill No. 5788. <br /> <br />· Mr. Al Goldman, 1522 Lyndale, asked to be recognized, which request was <br />granted. Mr. Goldman said he is appearing as a representative of the <br />Jewish War Veterans, Post 644, most of whose members live in University <br />City. He said they had a representative at the first public hearing in <br />connection will Bill No. 5788 who expressed the views of the majority of <br />their membership, which was in favor of the passage of the bill. *I~.R~E SEE <br /> OTHER SIDE <br />Mr. Milford Trunk, operator of Kings-Del Beauty Shop, 6687 Delmar, was <br />next to be recognized. Mr. Trunk stated he is strongly opposed to <br />adoption of Bill No. 5788. <br /> <br />Mr. Clarence Wirtz, 7809 Trenton Avenue, again asked to be recognized, <br />which request was granted, and Mr. Wirtz reiterated his position objecting <br />to adoption of Bill No. 5788. <br /> <br />Upon inquiry by Mayor Kaufman whether anyone else desires to be heard on <br />the matter of Bill No. 5788, there was no response. Mayor Kaufman, in <br />keeping with his earlier announcement, now invited applause of those <br />present either for or against Bill No. 5788. The Mayor then declared <br />the public hearing concluded at 11:03 o'clock P.M. <br /> <br />Mayor Kaufman announced a brief recess (11:04 o'clock P.M.) and at 11:07 <br />o'clock P,M. the meeting reconvened. <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARING - PROPOSED Ii~ROVEMENT OF MEYE2 STREET FROM OLIVE BOULEVAP~ <br />TO TIlE NORTH LINE OF OLIVE STFgET TERRACE SUBDIVISION: <br /> <br />}layor Kaufman stated that earlier he had announced that a public hearing <br />had been set for 7:35 o'clock P.M, concerning proposed improvement of <br />l~eyer Street from Olive Boulevard to the north line of Olive Street Terrace <br />Subdivision, and upon inquiry as to whether anyone desired to be heard <br />there had been no response. The Mayor said he understands that several <br />interested parties came in late and would like to present their views~ <br />and therefore, the public hearing is now open again. <br /> <br />lit. Ben Fadem, 1226 Meyer Street, asked to be recognized, which request <br />was granted. Mr. Fadem stated that he represents himself; however, there <br />are also present three other property owners of that block who have the <br />same views on the subject -- all in favor of the proposal. Mr. Fadem <br />introduced his constituents as Mr. James F. Reed (1223 Meyer); Mr. Jack <br />Minsky (1230 Meyer); and Mr. David Framer (1219 Meyer) and stated they <br />were all proponents of a petition submitted some time ago requesting im- <br />provement of Meyer Street. <br /> <br />The matter of sidewalks was brought up by Mr. Fadem, and he asked whether <br />the cost of the sidewalks could be added to the street improvement tax <br />bills. The City Manager explained that consideration of sidewalks is a <br />separate matter. Upon inquiry by Mayor Kaufman, Mr. Fadem indicated he <br />and Messrs. Reed, Minsky and Framer are in favor of construction of side- <br />walks. <br /> <br />Councilman Lahrmann moved that a public hearing be held on February 15, <br />1960, at 7:35 o'clock P.M. for consideration of matter of sidewalks on <br /> <br /> <br />
