Hs Cobbs said any schools in <br />University Clty are welcome to become part of the Community Education program, but <br />only ftve at this time are interested In the program. Hs Cobbs said the Central Co- <br />ordinating Council is really needed and should not be eliminated, and that they do <br />get input from neighborhood groups, from the schools and from the city staff. <br /> <br />Barbara Brandon, 6701 Plymouth, asked to address the Council on the Community Educa- <br />tion program. Ns Brandon said she felt that the programs in the Community Education <br />program were set up in response to needs of the immediate neighborhoods in which <br />they operate, but she felt that sometimes a great deal of effort had to be put forth <br />to Justify them, and she feels that should not be necessary. <br /> <br />George Hogan, 7046 Washington, asked to address the Council on the proposed increase <br />in the property tax in University City. He feels there have been too many increases <br />in taxes recently, and would like to see more effort devoted to conmercial develop- <br />ment in University City. Several Councilmen noted that the City has a full-time <br />ployee, Hary Fahey, ~ho is working toward attracting more commercial development in <br />University City. <br /> <br />Hr. Rubin Schlafmen, 747 Yale, asked to address Council on the general subject of <br />the budget. Hr. Schlafman commented on various areas of the budget, including per- <br />sonnel costs, dues and memberships, food allowances, travel allowances and contrac- <br />tual services, all of which show an increase over last year. Hr. Schlafman suggested <br />there should be some paring down in these areas. <br /> <br />Councilman Kelley said he wanted to comment on Hr. Hogan's statement. Rt.
