Session 1725, Minutes 7
June 8, 1998

Anthony Montgomery, 1255 Ferguson, said that he did not run a mattress company or a
motel. Somebody leaves them there and he has them discarded. He does not have
any bags behind his place, but maybe behind another building down the road. He said
that he was not trying to tear. the neighborhood down. He lives in the area also and is
trying to keep the area clean. He said that he would not just cater to senior citizens
only. He said that he was catering to a crowd thirty or older. Many of the citizens park
on his lot or pass through on his lot and he never says anything. He said that he
wished that the neighbors would consult him with their concerns and he would try to
work with them.

Robert West, 1209 Buckner, said that he had talked to the State Liquor Board and the
license was still valid, because the building had not been vacant for a year or Mr.
Montgomery would not invested in it. Mr. Ware and Mr. Sharpe worked for them on
this. All the building violations were corrected in the building. To deny him a liquor
license now, is a great injustice. He is in favor of the liquor license.

Toni Russell, 1468 Belt, came to speak on Mr. Montgomery's behalf. She does not like
the loud, young crowds. She comes out here to eat two to three days a week. She
does not drink, but she feels Mr. Montgomery deserves an opportunity to make his
dream come true. She is in favor of the liquor license.

Jacquelyn Russell, 8305 Braddock, says that she goes to Mr. Montgomery's
establishment at least three times a week. They have good food and a family
atmosphere. It is a comfortable place to relax, other than your home, which is a plus.
She is in favor of the liquor license.

Darrin Sims, 9639 Vincennes, said that he was the son of the applicant and his job
would be to keep the place clean. He said it would not be run down and trashy as the
neighbors said this evening. He will keep it kept up nicely. He is in favor of the liquor
license.

Mayor Adams closed the public hearing.

Ms. Colquitt said that this issue should be tabled. She told the Montgomery's to go to
the residents and talk with them about their concerns.

Ms. Colquitt moved to table this liquor license approval. Mr. Sharpe seconded the
motion. AYES: Colquitt, Wagner, Sharpe. NAYS: Munkel, Lieberman, Schoomer,
Mayor Adams. The motion to table failed 3 to 4.

Mr. Munkel asked the City Manager about the earlier allegations about the City having
to provide services to the property. Mr. Ollendorff said that the City has had to clean up
