Ms. Gwen <br />Bueckerrlorf, representin;J the Partnership, said the SChool Board, City Coun- <br />cil, arxl other groups recognized a great need in the cxmmmity for IIK>re or- <br />ganized activities for teenagers. She discussed events that have taken place <br />so far, arxl sane planned for the future, notin;J that a great many volunteers <br />are taking responsibility for maki.n;J this program a success. She thanked <br />Councilmembers SChmnan arxl Price, Police Officer Green, arxl Park Deparbnent <br />employee Cheryl '!hanpson for their hard \tJOrk, as ~l as the city administra- <br />tion for its \tJOmerful cooperation. She added that the activities scheduled <br />resulted from a survey done early this year which listed what teenagers want <br />in their cammuni.ty. <br /> <br />Mayor Majen1S thanked Ms. Bueckerrlorf, addi.n;J that it was amazin;J what this <br />group has ac:corrplished in such a short time. Mrs. SChmnan said she recently <br />looked at the minutes of CPR's first meetin;J last January arxl that every ob- <br />jective set out at that time has been ac:corrplished. <br /> <br />CITIZEN cn1MENI'S <br /> <br />Mr. Bob Gilm:>re, 849 University Place, presented Council with a metro signed <br />by a number of golfers which stated their appreciation of the fine work of <br />Ron Akin, Ruth Park Golf Professional. He said university City was fortunate <br />to have such an ac:corrplished person in charge of operations arxl the pro shop. <br /> <br />MAYORAL cn1MENI'S <br /> <br />Mayor Majen1S said citizens who have called union Electric recently have re- <br />ceived unusual answers to their questions, arxl she wished to set the record <br />straight. She said Union Electric owns 99% of university city's street <br />lights arxl the City pays $750,000 a year in rent arxl electricity; however, <br />some of their operators have told citizens Union Electric does not own the <br />lights; that lights are out because university City did not pay its bill; or <br />in the case of dim lights, that University City requested that the current be <br />turned down. Adja- <br />cent property owners have requested the vacation of right-of-way (except for <br />the path) on the Coolidge side of the bridge connectin;J Appleton at the River <br />Des Peres. '!he city Manager concurs with the request, notin;J that a similar <br />action was taken on the Braddock side several years ago.
