<br />Session 1573, Minutes <br />June 15, 1992 <br /> <br />Page 11 <br /> <br />Mr. Alex Feldman, 1233 Backer, thanked the Council and City Manager for con- <br />sidering his suggestion regarding Medicaid beds at the proposed nursing home <br />at One McKnight. He ccamnended those responsible for the Fair in the Square, <br />which he thought was the best ever. His ma.in concern now is Olive Boulevard, <br />some parts of which he thought were starting to look shabby. He IX>inted out <br />areas needing attention and suggested pertlaps youngsters could be hired. dur- <br />ing the summer to IX>lice those areas for litter, weeds, etc. <br /> <br />Mr. Ken Whiteside, 8680 West ~sbury, said he was concerned about a recent <br />incident at the Heman Park basketball courts, when an individual displayed a <br />gun. He said there were children's baseball games going on nearby, and ma.ny <br />people were worried that someone would be hurt. He noted that a baseball <br />tournament is scheduled in the Park the weekerrl of June 26th with teams from <br />throughout the st. Louis area, and he asked that extra patrols be used, or <br />some kind of Ironitoring. He added that a number of parents feel the basket- <br />ball courts should be rem::wed, although he was not recormnerrling that. He <br />suggested pertlaps an LD. system might be used with a nominal fee involved <br />for an atterrlant to Ironitor certain areas. <br /> <br />Mr. Price left the meeting at this ti1ne (9:35 p.m.) <br /> <br />Ms. Clara Schwartz, 7601 Gannon, said she is very concerned about an increase <br />in traffic and congested Parking on her street since a restaurant opened at <br />Gannon and North and South. She said the trees on her street have not been <br />triJmned for at least two years. Also, a light on Bemiston near her home was <br />moved, and now the area is very dark. She said a sign prohibiting trucks on <br />Gannon is illegible and should be replaced. She was also upset about a pro- <br />posed increase in taxes, especially since she felt there were fewer services <br />than there used to be. Mr. AdaIns <br />seconded the Irotion. Upon roll call, the following vote was recorded: AYES: <br />Councilmernbers Price, Adams, Wagner, Schuman, Schoomer, 'IhCllTpSOn, and Mayor <br />Majerus. NAYS: None.
