Mr. Adams moved ap- <br />proval, Mr. Schoorner secorrled the motion, am all voted Aye. <br /> <br />Although approving the proclamation, Mr. Price felt the Council has not been <br />vocal enough in advocating restitution for crime victims, am he urged sup- <br />port for the st. IDuis County-administered program. <br /> <br />Mrs. Schuman said in connection with the proclamation she had very grave con- <br />cen1S about a bill being considered by the Missouri Legislature that would <br />allOVl citizens to can:y concealed weapons. She urged those present to write <br />their legislators am register their opposition to this bill. Mrs. 'Ihompson <br />agreed with Mrs. Schuman, suggesting that Council go on record in opposition <br />to this bill. All agreed am Mayor Maj erus said she would send a letter to <br />Senator Banks, who has been working for the defeat of this bill. Mrs. 'Ihorrp- <br />son so moved, Mr. Schoomer secorrled the motion, am all voted Aye. <br /> <br />Mayor Majerus called attention to a secorrl proclamation which designates the <br />week of May 17-23 as National Public WOrks Week. Mr. Schoomer moved approval <br />am Mrs. Schuman secorrled the motion. All voted Aye. <br /> <br />ANNOONCEMENI'S <br /> <br />Mayor Majerus said the National Conference of Mayors is sponsoring a March on <br />washington May 16 so cities may shOVl their displeasure to Congress for its <br />total disregard of their rights am needs. She said an infonnational flyer <br />is available for those interested. As a member of the Board of Directors of <br />the National League of cities, Mr. Adams said he hOPed many will atterrl this <br />iIrportant event, adding that the executive branch is asking the Congress to <br />help cities in the fonner Soviet Union while American cities go begging. <br /> <br />Mayor Majerus said she received a cormnunication from the citizens for Modem <br />Transit stating they have acquired a portion of the Tennina1 Railroad central <br />Belt Corridor from the River Des Peres north to Page in University City. It <br />will be larrlbanked until it is donated to Bi-state to build a cross-county <br />light rail extension. <br /> <br />Mayor Majerus noted that Council recently received a memo from the Creve <br />Coeur Fire Protection District which discussed possible fire district mergers <br />am also included a questionnaire. She said since no one resporrled she would <br />do so for the whole Council. <br />
