Mr. 01- <br />lemorff said the Arts an::l Letters Callmission did not fonnally request funds, <br />however, the chainnan asked for an allocation at least as llUlch ($1400) as <br />last year. A final decision on this will be made later. He added that a la- <br />ser jet printer was included in this budget. <br /> <br />2010 Police Deoart:ment (page C-36). '!he City Manager said personnel levels <br />will remain as they are TY:M, althcugh 714.0 overtime Pay has been increased <br />to provide for extra help when needed. In resp:>nse to Mr. Price, Mr. Ollen- <br />dorff said the serv:in:J of warrants is included in overtime Pay. Mrs. '!hanp- <br />son said she felt it was i.Irportant to have IlDre patrol officers ~ a <br />beat so that trust develops between the plblic an::l the police. Mr. Ollen- <br />dorff said there were officers ~ a beat in the Loop area, where lots of <br />people ~te. Mrs. '!harpson felt they should be plt in other areas, but <br />the City Manager pointed out there were not enough people on the streets in <br />IlDSt areas to justify do:in:J this. Mayor Majerus recalled that Police person- <br />nel did a study last year after Mrs. '!harpson made the same request, an::l they <br />reached the same conclusion as Mr. Ollemorff. '!he City Manager said IlDre <br />beat officers have been added in the Loop area, where many people gather. He <br />noted that several items in this budget that were cut back last year have <br />been restored to a IlDre nonnal level. He drew attention to 722.06 Travel:in:J <br />Expense, where the increase is due to educational activities for the officers <br />working in the D.A.R.E. program, an::l the accreditation program. Respoming <br />to Mr. Price, Mr. Ollemorff said $7500 of the 728.06 Police Train:in:J budget <br />is to senj 75 officers to the Police Academy for one course. '!here was brief <br />discussion about police sensitivity train:in:J, which the Council felt was very <br />i.Irportant. Mrs. Schuman noted an increase in 724.04 Workers Carpensation, <br />although in several other deparbnents there was a decrease. Mr. Ollen:iorff <br />said that was primarily based on salary levels. He said that school cross:in:J <br />guards are currently included in this budget, but the School District has <br />been asked to share in this expense. Urner Capital outlay, Mr. Ollen:iorff <br />said three c:x:arp.rter workstations (two in the Detective Bureau) will be added <br />(743.02) an::l the two year old carputer system will be upgraded (743.08). <br /> <br />2020 Fire Deparbnent (page C-42). '!he City Manager said the City could not <br />afford to reinstate the 'tE!Itp)rary cut of two paramedics. He also said at the <br />next meet:in:J he would like to discuss 'tE!Itp)rarily reduc:in:J the number of par- <br />amedics, but add:in:J firefighters so the number of personnel remains the same. <br />He said the other change is that in several categories, sane of last year's <br />cuts have been restored (protective equipnent of various types). In resp:>nse <br />to Mayor Majerus, Mr. Ollemorff said 725.03 TelE!Ihone has gone up because of <br />additional pagers. Althcugh not shown in this deparbnent, Mr. Ollemorff <br />discussed the Fire Equipnent Replacement Furrl, not:in:J there is no longer a <br />reserve pumper. Also, a utility tnlck may need replacement sometime soon. <br />
