Mr. Schocmer seconded the <br />motion, which carried Ul'lal1i1oc>usly. <br /> <br />PACKAGE LIOOOR LICENSE - GRANDPA' S/8020 OLIVE <br /> <br />'!he City Manager said an application for a license to sell package liquor at <br />retail at Grandpa's, 8020 Olive, has been reviewed and meets all legal re- <br />quirements. '!he applicant has a clear record, and the location complies with <br />Council policy for granting such a license. He said it seemed to be in order <br />for Council to approve, if they so desired. <br /> <br />In response to Mr. Adams, it was detenni.ned the Granjpa' s store has been in <br />University city for more than three years. Mr. Adams moved approval, and Mr. <br />Schoorner seconded the motion. <br /> <br />Mr. Wagner asked if other Granjpa's stores have liquor licenses. Mr. Ollen- <br />dorff said several have them, and others are in the process of getting them. <br /> <br />Mrs. Schuman said her understanding of Council policy was that there was no <br />interest in allowing any more package liquor stores. Mr. Ollendorff said <br />when council reviewed its policy six years ago, it agreed that new package <br />licenses would be in larger stores only, although "large" was not defined. <br /> <br />Mr. Dwight Power, representing Grandpa's, came fo:rward. In response to Mr. <br />Schoomer, Mr. Power said less than 1,000 square feet of the 80,000 square <br />feet store will be devoted to liquor display. <br /> <br />Mrs. '!hompson said she recalled that Council had discussed liquor licenses at <br />some length. Mr. Ollendorff said Council did put lilnits on freestanding li- <br />quor stores, setting the number at two; but that was separate from allowing a <br />small sale area within a larger store. <br /> <br />Mrs. Schuman questioned the full liquor application, however, Mr. Power said <br />the store will sell only beer and wine. Mr. Adams noted that the state has <br />only a beer license or a full liquor license, but nothing in between. <br /> <br />All voted Aye except Mrs. Schurnan, who voted Nay.
