<br />RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A <br />UNIVERSITY CITY ADVISORY BOARD FOR ECONOMIC PROGRESS <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of University City is a first-tier suburb facing the same challenges and <br />stresses of such inner-ring suburbs around the country; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of University is committed to taking a proactive approach to <br />dealing with these challenges and stresses; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, these challenges and stresses will be lessened with a vibrant, healthy economic <br />climate within University City; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of University City has a long tradition of turning to its residents for <br />advice and guidance in areas of concern to the city; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of University City has among its residents experts in the field of <br />economic development and redevelopment; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of University City also has businessmen and women who are very <br />interested in increasing the economic vitality of the city; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, many of these residents and businessmen and women have expressed a <br />willingness to volunteer their services, expertise and advice to advance economic <br />development and redevelopment in University City; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that <br /> <br />The City Council of University City authorizes a voluntary Advisory Board for Economic <br />Progress to work under the direction of the City Council to study the options for economic <br />development and redevelopment in the city for a period of not more than 6 months; and <br /> <br />This Advisory Board will consist of resident experts in the field of economic development, <br />redevelopment and associated fields, as well as other local residents and businessmen and <br />women as stakeholders in our economic progress, will be representative of the community <br />to the greatest extent possible, and the resident chairs of the University City economic <br />development commissions will be invited to participate; and <br /> <br />Each member of the Council will appoint at least one representative to the group, with the <br />final size and composition of the group being agreed upon by the full Council through <br />consensus where possible, or by a vote of the majority when consensus cannot be reached; <br />and <br /> <br />This Advisory Board will study the current situation in the City of University, look at <br />possibilities for future development and redevelopment that will enhance our community, <br />and will examine ways to increase the competitiveness of University City in the St. Louis <br />metropolitan area; and <br />
