Regular Meeting
April 11, 2005

Manager that he not only get bids but that he consult with the city managers of some of
the nearby municipalities to find out the names of the firms that they currently enjoy.”
Mr. Sharpe seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Three-Meter Diving Board Platform Ladder (removed from consent calendar):

Eleven companies were contacted for proposals to furnish and install a platform type
ladder meeting our insurance pool safety requirements which are higher than industry
standards. This is a custom built platform ladder and only one company was able to
meet this need. I recommend accepting the bid by Westport Pools in the amount of
$16,801.

Ms. Welsch explained that she asked for this to be removed from the Consent Calendar
because she had concerns about there being only one bid for this particular item. She
also had concerns about employing this same company that installed the existing ladder
that was obviously not installed correctly. She asked the City Manager to do some
research on the company that is making the ladder that Westport Pools is proposing to
install at the pool. She also asked him to determine who designed the platforms at
Maplewood and Clayton and she is anxious that this be installed correctly, because
citizens should have full use of it throughout the swimming season this year.

Ms. Welsch then said if no one else cared to speak about this issue, she would move to
table this pending more information from the City Manager. Mr. Sharpe seconded, and
the motion passed unanimously. Mayor Adams said that when a motion is tabled it may
not be discussed further.

Agenda Item # Two –
Public Hearing on Vacating Forest Park Ave. North of Maple
Ave. in Cunningham Industrial Park:

A public hearing has been set for 6:30 p.m. on this date in these Council Chambers to
hear and consider the request to vacate a narrow dead-end right-of-way going north
from Maple Ave. one block east of Sutter Ave. Forest Park Ave. is surrounded by
buildings and property owned by Universal Sewing Supply Company which has plans to
construct an addition over this right-of-way. There is no public need for this street.

The City Manager recommended that Council approve vacating but said this is the time
to hear comments from the public. Mayor Adams declared the Public Hearing open at
6:50 P.M. but since there were no requests to speak on the topic, Mayor Adams
declared the Public Hearing closed at 6:50 P.M.

Page 6
