Regular meeting
June 6, 2005

requested the Council revisit the Council’s policy on Councilmember pictures being
utilized on materials promoting the Centennial celebration. She felt that she should
respond, since this was her suggestion. She did not believe that the money to be set
aside for the Centennial celebration should become an opportunity for misuse of the
Council’s particular needs to be seen in photographs. She feels very strongly that the
citizens of University City and the history of the City are being celebrated and Council
faces need not become the profile of the City. She would like to see photos of school
children, employees, citizen volunteers and of citizens just living their day to day lives.
We also have a tremendous archive of wonderful historical photographs that could be
utilized. She suggests, in response to Mr. Ollendorff’s memo, that the Council take one
group photo of the Council that could be used in the promotional pieces and pr for the
Centennial celebration. She does not feel that in an election year, where four members
of Council, including the Mayor, will be running for new seats, that the $20,000 that the
citizens will be paying in for our celebration should be in any way misconstrued as being
used for potential campaign materials. She knows that her colleagues are very
honorable people, but she does believe that it is the Council’s role to make policy that
says, without any kind of hesitation, that we will be utilizing the funds in the honor of the
people, not for political purposes.

Ms. Welsch wished to make a formal request of the City Manager to arrange to give the
Councilmembers a tour of the renovation work of the first and second floors of City Hall.
She would like to see what it looks like now so she can fully appreciate what is coming
later.

Ms. Colquitt asked the City Manager to make sure that sensitive information being sent
out to citizens that we make sure that it is being sent to the correct address.

Mayor Adams said that tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m. there would be a special study
session of the City Council in the fifth floor dealing with the economic development
report. This coming Saturday, June 11, 10-11, the dog park people will be receiving an
honor for being one of the ten best dog parks in the nation.

Ms. Welsch knows that there is a golf tournament going on at the Ruth Park Golf
Course this Sunday in support of the University City High School Sports Association.
She is told it is a very good event and they would appreciate everyone’s support.

Ms. Colquitt reported that on Sunday, June 12, in Forest Park, there will be an AIDS
walk for all individuals in the State of Missouri. We hope that enough funds will be
made to give back to local AIDS service organizations that are educating the community
about HIV and AIDS, as well.
Page 14
