Session 1727, Minutes
July 13, 1998

in a number of near misses while people come pulling out of that Schnucks parking
driveway, going west. His concern with the no left turn, however, is what will happen to
those trucks that are mandated by the City of Ladue to come out on Delmar. He does
not want the trucks making right turns into and going through the residential streets to
try and get back onto 170. If this happens, he wants some no thru truck traffic signs in
the residential areas.

Mr. Wagner said that the problem focuses during the rush hours in the morning and the
evening. He thinks that if you restrict left turns at the rush hours, then it would push the
trucks to make their deliveries during other times of the day.

Mayor Adams said it would make logical sense for the trucks to exit an entrance off of
Ladue because right across the street is the entrance and exits to 170.

Mr. Sharpe asked if it was possible for our police department to do a study of this
intersection. Mr. Ollendorff replied that the police department could supply an accident
count which could be forwarded to the County, but that they do not have traffic
engineering expertise.

Mayor Adams said that the near misses should be counted, as well as actual accidents.

Mr. Schoomer said that he agreed that this intersection was insane and that something
needs to be done. He does not wish to start up disagreements with our southwest
neighbor or preordain the direction of whatever study is done.

Mr. Schoomer moved to direct the City Manager and his staff to contact County
Highways and see if any further information may be garnered and if any
recommendation could be forthcoming for a solution to this obvious problem. Mr.
Munkel seconded the motion, which carried unanimously.

AGENDA #7: MAYOR/SCHOOL BOARD PRESIDENT'S COMMISSION REPORT:

Mayor Adams directed a group of representatives from the Mayor/School Board
President's Commission to come up to speak on a report that they recently prepared.

Hardy Ware, 1465 Forest Green Ct., said that the Mayor and the School Board
President put together a commission comprised of over thirty citizens. Mr. Paul Marsh
will give a brief background, Mr. Friedman will report on economic development, Mr.
Cotter will ask for Council to endorse the entire plan, and Mr. Ware will lay out the major
points of the plan.
