Mr. Price asked if the First Tee program with the school got off the ground. Ms. MacCartney said it did not because the school district person was no longer with the district and they are presently in the process of reassigning it. Mr. Price noted the importance of this program getting started. Mr. Sharpe did not understand how throwing in the use of the pool did not cost more. He asked if you could just purchase a pool pass. Ms. MacCartney said the pool has a fixed cost and throwing in extra people did not appreciably increase the pool cost. He also was not aware that the pool membership was thrown in with the Centennial Commons membership. Mr. Price asked the Director of Public Works Evelyn Benford-Shields if there would be a financial gain if everyone recycled. Ms. Benford-Shields said that disposal cost would be reduced significantly. Mr. Wagner asked Ms. Benford-Shields if the reduction in leaf vacuuming would save money in the budget. She stated that it would not as the first vacuuming is completed within two days and another benefit by sweeping the streets would help preserve the surface. Ms. Benford-Shields said that Public Works cannot collect all the leaves in the nine week period, so collecting some ahead helped. Mr. Crow felt there would be some beneficial savings to the City by reducing the leaf pick- up by one. Ms. Benford-Shields said she would look at after the meeting to see what the savings would be. Ms. Ricci stated she was having trouble understanding the relationship between Public Works, Solid Waste and Fleet Management. She asked if Revenue was shown in Fleet Management when work was expensed to another department. Ms. Watson stated that line item Fleet Service Replacement included any expense associated with a vehicle. Ms. Ricci asked what was slated for $75,000 listed under Supplies in Public Works. Ms. Watson thought it was for carts that were being purchased. She asked Ms. Benford- Shields if she received monthly financial reports for her department, so she is able to see where they stand in relationship to budget and she confirmed that she did. Ms. Ricci asked if Public Works also self generates their own financial spread sheet and Ms. Benford-Shields stated they did. Ms. Watson stated that a lot of departments keep their own spread sheet as the financial department’s present system is hard to navigate. Mr. Glickert asked how many sanitation trucks are on the street and how many are there in total? Ms. Benford-Shields stated she would have to look to get an accurate count but knew of two trash trucks, two recycling trucks and two yard waste trucks that go out daily. She stated that there are some older trucks that need to be sold. Mr. Glickert said then there are assets sitting in those trucks. He asked about the trash truck that caught fire and preventative maintenance taking place. Ms. Benford-Shields stated that they are working with the manufacturer to place a cover to prevent paper from landing behind the cab to prevent future fires. Mr. Wagner stated that the quality of fleet maintenance and preventive maintenance can extend the life-time of a vehicle. Ms. Benford-Shields said the fleet management study will cover this.
