Mr. Sharpe asked Ms. Benford-Shield to verify that he understood from previous questions <br />that during the leaf pick-up, all city streets are swept regardless if there are leaves to be <br />picked up. Ms. Benford-Shields confirmed this. <br />Ms. Ricci asked why under the Capital Improvement Fund a new transfer station was <br />budgeted in two different areas. Ms. Benford-Shield stated the $150,000 represents <br />design work and a private partner is helping with this study for $50,000. <br />Mr. Price asked of the Fire Chief Steve Olshwanger if the pumpers are working and if they <br />will work next year. Chief Olshwanger stated that this past year, $9,500 was spent in <br />maintenance fees on the pumper looking to be replaced. He thought that it could be <br />extended with additional maintenance costs. <br />Mr. Wagner asked if the new trucks to be purchased will be smaller so it could fit areas as <br />Northmoor Drive. Chief Olshwanger stated that U.City have some of the smaller fire trucks <br />as compared to other districts. Mayor Adams stated that he encouraged the City to <br />include a new fire house along with the fire trucks when proposing a bond issue. He would <br />like to see this new fire house also house a police holding section. <br />Mr. Crow asked if the fire department was still experiencing a high degree of turnover and <br />Chief Olshwanger confirmed that they were still experiencing this. <br />Mr. Price inquired from Police Chief Charles Adams whether repeated offenders are fined <br />in accordance to its cost. He stated that the City Prosecutor and the Judge are the ones <br />who determine the fines. <br />Mr. Sharpe asked about when and if a meeting with the Judge, Chief Adams, Mr. Price <br />and himself as previously discussed, would take place. The meeting was to work together <br />to see if and what solutions could be worked out with youth offenders. Chief Adams stated <br />that he was in the process of arranging this meeting. <br />Mr. Crow asked if Chief Adams was comfortable with the life of their vehicles or if they <br />could be extended. Chief Adams stated the vehicles are their offices. The vehicles need <br />to perform well, be safe and be comfortable.Mr. Crow asked Chief Adams if they were <br />ready to implement the curfew with summer approaching. Chief Adams stated that they <br />are all ready enforcing it. <br />Ms. Ricci asked if it would be justifiable to ask Washington University for more financial <br />assistance. Chief Adams stated that the people in the Loop are from all over. Washington <br />University has offered to assist in funding U.City Police by $40,000. Ms. Ricci asked if the <br />Police Department has been impacted with the closing of Highway 40 and Chief Adams <br />responded by saying it had a negligible impact. Ms. Ricci asked how a four day work week <br />would work and Chief Adams thought that there would be no problems and would give the <br />officers more of a chance to be at home for a longer time. She asked if each officer had a <br />laptop and a camera in the car. Chief Adams stated that they do not have cameras but <br />each vehicle does have a laptop. Ms. Ricci asked about safety vests and Chief Adams <br />stated that each purchase their own safety vest. Ms. Ricci asked if he received a monthly <br />financial statement from finance so the department can tell if they are over or under in line <br />items and he agreed that he had. <br /> <br />
