Ms. Glickert asked if more money had been allocated for cutting grass <br />on the more and more repossessed houses in University City. She <br />was against any City money being spent on a retirement party. Ms. <br />Glickert wanted to know why the decorative lights on Olive are never <br />turned off. She stated that the natatorium will function next year and <br />should stay in the budget. Ms. Glickert stated that Economic <br />Development funds are needed at the Cunnigham Park Industrial <br />Court for development not to use the money to balance the budget. <br />She felt it was inhumane to expect the police to work twelve hour days. <br />Charles Zdazinsky, 8025 Delmar <br />Mr. Sdazinsky was present to protest the additional $25 registration fee <br />for rental units as proposed in this budget. He stated that renters are <br />usually of the lower economical scale and cannot afford more fees and <br />it is assured that this additional fee will be passed on to them. Mr. <br />Zdazinsky stated that all four of his property taxes have increased <br />along with trash collection fees rising and the promise of a much larger <br />sewer bill. He stated that there was nothing to distinguish a four <br />bedroom rental from a one bedroom rental. Mr. Zdazinsky stated that <br />it violates equal protection laws though out our country from rental <br />business owners and all other business owners. He also asked if the <br />Washington University rental properties will be included in this fee. He <br />asked about the owner occupied homes that have roommates to share <br />in expenses. Mr. Zdazinsky stated that this proposal will not grow the <br />community’s economy nor attract business and type of business <br />owners that this City claims it needs and wants to retain. <br />(11) David Still, Jr., 7005 Camden Court <br />Mr. Still stated that he was told two years ago that Camden Court <br />would be resurfaced and asked that it is in the schedule for the New <br />Year. <br />(12) Saundra Holland, 1088 Wilson Ave. <br />Ms. Holland stated her mother withstood floods for thirty years but in <br />the end lost the battle to the water.She is asking for her mother, sister <br />and other flood victims that a resolution is met and in a timely manner. <br />(13) Nadine Jones, 1142 Glenside Ln <br />Ms. Jones was representing Glenside Lane and told the Council that <br />they need to focus on all of the families that are dealing with the floods <br />from River DesPeres. She said it seems that the City doesn’t care <br />about them and they cannot sell their homes after they have been <br />flooded. <br />(14) Edward McCarthy, 7101 Princeton Ave. <br />Mr. McCarthy thanked everyone for coming and said that University <br />City is a great City.He stated that everyone covered what he had to <br />say but had one comment. “If this is how you are solving the budget <br />this year, what are you going to do next year?” <br />(15) Amy Papian, 1114 Wilson <br />Ms. Papian talked on the employee’s benefits; AR 10 which increases <br />tuition reimbursement from a cap of $500 a year to an unlimited <br />reimbursement for all tuition and books at the rate of $1,473.60 per <br />credit hour, which she felt was outrageous. She stated every <br />municipality is making cuts and she urged that the budget not be <br />passed tonight and to prohibit any money transfers between funds, <br /> <br />
