U City HeroEvan Hunter, <br />: On June 4, Mr. a University City resident,noticed smoke <br />coming from an apartment at 6303 Olive and ran inside and found an elderly woman <br />semi-conscious and carried her outside prior to the arrival of the Fire Department. She <br />was transported to a local hospital and did recover. She experienced serious smoke <br />inhalation. At the next council meeting, we will present Mr. Hunter with a plaque <br />expressing our appreciation of his heroism. <br />Writing Contest: <br />2. <br /> In celebration of the 100 year birthday of our beloved lions, the <br />Historical Society held a writing contest called What have the Lions seen in the past 100 <br />years? The Society received nearly 30 submissions from University City High School <br />Robert Evans III <br />students and selected winners. In a tie, First Place went to for his <br />Zoe Maffitt <br />fictional story “Bravery on the Boulevard” and to for her historic fictional <br />account of a young woman’s adventures at the 1904 Fair called “Letter to Marie Louise” <br />Anya Dodgson Klooster <br />and Honorable Mention went to for her outstanding poem <br />called “Just Flames” which described the firefighters strike in 1976. The Historical <br />Society will make a presentation to the students now. Full copies of the essays were <br />attached to your July 9 Weekly Report. <br />3. A-1 Market <br />has requested a liquor license to sell all types of intoxicating liquor by the <br />package at retail at 8605 Olive Blvd. This location would operate as a food and package <br />liquor store. The applicant states there will be fifty percent (50%) or more of sales <br />volume in food sales. Based on the application, staff found no disqualifying information. <br />4. Ranoosh Middle Eastern Cuisine & Hookah Bar <br />at 6501 Delmar Blvd. was approved <br />for a liquor license to sell all kinds of intoxicating liquor by the drink at retail last month. <br /> <br />
