U City HeroEvan Hunter, : On June 4, Mr. a University City resident,noticed smoke coming from an apartment at 6303 Olive and ran inside and found an elderly woman semi-conscious and carried her outside prior to the arrival of the Fire Department. She was transported to a local hospital and did recover. She experienced serious smoke inhalation. At the next council meeting, we will present Mr. Hunter with a plaque expressing our appreciation of his heroism. Writing Contest: 2. In celebration of the 100 year birthday of our beloved lions, the Historical Society held a writing contest called What have the Lions seen in the past 100 years? The Society received nearly 30 submissions from University City High School Robert Evans III students and selected winners. In a tie, First Place went to for his Zoe Maffitt fictional story “Bravery on the Boulevard” and to for her historic fictional account of a young woman’s adventures at the 1904 Fair called “Letter to Marie Louise” Anya Dodgson Klooster and Honorable Mention went to for her outstanding poem called “Just Flames” which described the firefighters strike in 1976. The Historical Society will make a presentation to the students now. Full copies of the essays were attached to your July 9 Weekly Report. 3. A-1 Market has requested a liquor license to sell all types of intoxicating liquor by the package at retail at 8605 Olive Blvd. This location would operate as a food and package liquor store. The applicant states there will be fifty percent (50%) or more of sales volume in food sales. Based on the application, staff found no disqualifying information. 4. Ranoosh Middle Eastern Cuisine & Hookah Bar at 6501 Delmar Blvd. was approved for a liquor license to sell all kinds of intoxicating liquor by the drink at retail last month.
