On Saturday, September 12, the <br />Missouri Vintage Base Ball Tournament <br /> for the Missouri Cup will be held on Jack <br />Buck Field in Heman Park all day. The U City Lions are hosting this event because they <br />won the championship last year. If you have not gone to <br />see the nine artfully decorated lions check them out this weekend. Maps of the <br />locations are available at City Hall, Centennial Commons, or the Library. You can also <br />see them on the website: www.lionsbirthdaybash.org The Roaring Lions will be moved <br />U City in Bloom Garden Tour <br />to the individual gardens for the called “Lions in the <br />Gardens”, which will be held on Sunday, September 13. Tickets are available at the <br />Library, University Gardens, Winslow's Home, Plowsharing Crafts, and Garden Heights <br />Nursery in Richmond Heights. Several <br />groups are raising funds to “buy” their lions, including a grass roots effort at the Library <br />to keep the “Read between the Lions” lion and the school district to keep the “Roaring <br />with Colors” lion. The party, sponsored by the Parks Foundation will include food, fun, <br />entertainment and a silent auction as well as a live auction for seven of the Roaring <br />Lions. The artists who brought to life these fiberglass lions will also be present to <br />answer questions about their work and to enjoy the last moments with their “babies”. <br />The Circle in the Square Quilters created a special lion quilt in honor of our lions, which <br />will also be auctioned off at the party. Tickets for the Saturday, October 10 event will be <br />$25 per person. To get tickets for this event contact Judy Prange at 721-7401. For <br />information about the live auction, contact Ed Nickels at 726-6168. There will be a <br />minimum opening bid of $500 and a “buy it now” price of $5000. Do not miss this <br />exciting opportunity to purchase a piece of University City history.All proceeds from the <br />sale of the Lions will go into a permanent maintenance fund for our real Lion and <br />Lioness in the Civic Plaza. <br />11 wonderful <br />Please encourage your constituents to come by City Hall to see the <br />Birthday Card Banners <br /> from our neighboring cities wishing our Lions a Happy <br />Birthday. Our neighbors were kind enough to send us celebratory birthday banners for <br />the Lions’ 100 Birthday. The cities of Clayton, Kirkwood, Chesterfield, Maryland <br />Heights, Maplewood - Richmond Heights, Rock Hill, Berkeley, Vinita Terrace, Overland, <br />Des Peres and Webster Groves all made wonderfully creative banners for us. They are <br />all hanging in the rotunda of City Hall and will remain there until October 10 (the Party) <br />and then move to Centennial Commons for the remainder of the birthday year.
