The 2009 University City Park-athlon: The Parkathlon is a fun, outdoor event designed to accentuate and celebrate University City's remarkable park system. Although the name "Parkathlon" may sound like a grueling event for elite athletes, it actually consists of a variety of games and activities that park goers of all ages can enjoy. Sponsored by the University City Parks Foundation, (www.ucityparksfoundation.org), this year's Parkathlon will be held on Saturday, th September 26 from 9am until noon at the Heman Park soccer field, (just east of the Centennial Commons). The cost is $5.00 to participate and includes participation prizes donated by Parkathlon sponsors. Proceeds will help to fund various U City park improvements. This is a day not to be missed! This year's activities will include: 1 Mile Fun Run - at Heman Park's jogging trail, "Art in the Park" - participants will paint miniature lions to help celebrate the th 100 anniversary of the U-City Lions gate "Captain Target" golf game – kids can test their budding golf skills Football Target Toss – score points by throwing a football at the target Soccer Ball Target – score points by kicking a soccer ball at the target Adult-Child Tennis Tournament at Heman Park tennis courts FREE exercise class demonstrations including: Cardio Kickboxing, o T'ai Chi, o Zumba, o Senior Stretch and even o Belly Dancing! o Each class is available at the Centennial Commons. Also join us after the Parkathlon from 1PM– 3 PM for Starlight Concert Series favorite, Satin, a Motown revue musical experience! Many CALOP-funded projects have won national and international excellence awards including the current St. Louis Filmmakers Show case. In 27 years, CALOP has awarded nearly $2 million to more than 200 independent producers. The Higher Education Consortium (HEC-TV26) premieres CALOP programs Sundays and Thursdays as part of its prime time Liquid Light broadcast.
