<br />To: Honorable Mayor Adams and Council <br />From: Julie Feier, City Manager <br />Date: October 9, 2009 <br />Subject: Weekly Update <br />I look forward to seeing everyone at the University City Park Foundation’s Lion’s <br />Gates Birthday event this Saturday at 7 PM at City Hall. Tickets will be available <br />at the door for $25, all funds will go to preserve the Lion’s Gates of Opportunity. <br />We are a finalist for Heroes of the Planet Award. <br />Congratulations to University City. <br />The award program is designed to honor and promote businesses that have <br />outperformed their industry in promoting and advancing environmental sustainability <br />within our region. The award dinner is scheduled for October 29, 2009, where the <br />award winner will be announced. The application submitted in August 2009, highlighted <br />our history of recycling, environmental responsible practices such as LEED certification <br />for City Hall, the Green Practices Committee, assessment of on-going operational <br />practices, public walking trails/bike paths, tree replacement plan and other efforts. <br />Washington University Neighbors Council <br />invites you to the 2009 Report to <br />Washington University Neighbors on Wednesday, October 21 at 7:00 PM in the <br />Steinberg Auditorium (Parking available in front of Auditorium). Reception and <br />refreshments will be served after the program. Call the Office of Government & <br />Community Relations with any questions at 935-5752. <br />The U. City in Bloom BULB SALE <br /> is this weekend, Sat. Oct. 10, 9 AM – 4 PM and <br />Sun. Oct. 11, 12 PM – 4 PM. The volunteers will be set up on the Delmar sidewalk in <br />the Loop, between the Bread Company and Craft Alliance. Fall is a good time to divide <br />perennial plants. To donate them for the April Plant Sale, call 314-727-4232. <br />University City Auctions Government Surplus Vehicles and Equipment <br />Exclusively Online-Beginning Friday, October 9 <br />- Everything from trash trucks and <br />dump trucks to John Deere Tractors to Patrol Cars, a walk-behind snow blower to chain <br />saws and office chairs to a portable heater and more are available in the first online <br />auction of University City Government surplus property. The online auction ends on <br />Thursday, November 5, 2009 at 10:00 AM CDT. A complete listing of all surplus items <br />can be viewed on the City’s website at www.ucitymo.org. Businesses, individuals and <br />other government organizations can register and bid for the items online.
