bid, registration is required on the Purplewave.com website. Registration is free and
open to the public. Anyone interested in seeing the vehicles and equipment before the
auction can do so at an Open-House Inspection on Friday, October 29, 2009 from 1 PM
to 5:30 PM. The items can also be seen by appointment October 26 – 29, 2009.
Vehicles and equipment items will be available for inspection at 975 Pennsylvania
Avenue, next to the Community Center and City Hall, 6801 Delmar. See the complete
listing of surplus items for the exact location at the City’s website at www.ucitymo.org.
Sales of surplus property generate revenues for the City from items that are no longer in
use or are no longer required for operations. Disposal of these items comply with the
City’s disposal requirements for surplus property and allows the City to pursue the
maximum value for tax dollars. All items are sold “as-is, where is and without warranty.”
Winning bidders must collect the asset by Monday, November 16, 2009. For information
about the auction or surplus items, contact University City Department of Public Works,
Fleet Manager, Richard Pierce at (314) 505-8559.
The Fire and Police Departments hosted an emergency response meeting Tuesday
best practices in emergencies
night to review . Information is available at the FEMA
website or by contacting Janet Carter in the Fire Department at 505-8591. We are still
waiting to hear from FEMA on our buyout application. Nothing has changed since the
last update. As you know, there is a flood warning out for the later part of this week.
I would like to thank Public Works for going above and beyond to notify our residents on
FEMA Flood maps
the new and offering to coordinate appeals where necessary. We
issued a press release on this issue on July 28. In September, the map developed by
the County was made available. At that time we sent letters to each of our property
owners identified on the County map. Public Works has been fielding a substantial
number of calls from the over 400 property owners since then. Appeals had to be in
writing and must be received by FEMA no later than October 22, 2009 (90-day review
time). The City advises property owners to contact their local insurance agent. They
can also consult the local yellow pages for a list of land surveyors. There are more than
eight in St. Louis identified in the Yellow Pages if someone is looking for Land
Surveyors. October 22, 2009 – Property owners can submit their information directly to
FEMA, our participation is as a courtesy, so they can submit information themselves.
The residents do not have to comment during the 90-day period. This is an option.
Residents can always petition for a map revision/amendment through FEMA’s process.
That process also requires a land surveyor to provide information related to the base
flood elevation and how it does not match with FEMA’s data. The benefit of responding
during the 90 day period is that if the information is different from FEMA’s data the
residents may be able to have their property excluded from the map and avoid paying
the insurance premium, if notified by their bank that they must obtain flood insurance.
However, with a map amendment, the homeowner may have the insurance premium for
flood insurance cancelled by their bank as well.
Upcoming Meeting List
Saturday, Oct 10: 7 PM Celebration Party of the 100 Year Birthday of the Lions
Monday, Oct.12: 5:30 PM Study Session, Performance Benchmarking
6:30 PM Council Meeting
Monday, Oct. 19: 5:30 PM Council Study Session on the City’s Deficit
