<br /> <br /> <br /> City of <br /> University <br /> C <br /> <br /> 10 ity <br /> Resolution 2009 - 21 <br /> <br /> Resolution of the City of University City <br /> For Green Housing Development <br /> <br /> Whereas the City of University City has the desire to improvement the quality of the life <br /> in the northeast quadrant of the city and have residences live healthy and sustainable <br /> lives; and <br /> <br /> Whereas the City of University City wants to demonstrate to the community, the region <br /> and the United States that dense, low-middle income urban neighborhoods can be <br /> made sustainable through concerted and creative efforts of dedicated professionals and <br /> City staff; and <br /> <br /> Whereas, the City of University City has invested in five properties on the 6600 block of <br /> north side of Bartmer and the south side of Crest Avenues (herein after the Test Block) <br /> for the purpose of building five new green homes and setting an example for the region <br /> of how infill urban development can reach the highest level of LEED certification and be <br /> affordable to the average citizen; and <br /> <br /> Whereas the City of University City desires that all citizens residing on the Test Block <br /> live in healthy, energy efficient homes that also minimize storm water runoff, conserve <br /> water resources, and that as a result have reduced operational costs; and <br /> Whereas the City of University City desires that there be strong and thorough <br /> community outreach to the citizens in the Sutter Heights neighborhood where the Test <br /> Block is located so that the community informs development in this neighborhood; and <br /> <br /> Whereas a consortium made up of Arcturis, BOA Construction and the Washington <br /> University Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts submitted a proposal dated <br /> August 31, 2009 to build design and build five LEED platinum homes at 6600 and 6630 <br /> Crest and 6621, 6637 and 6639 Bartmer; <br /> <br /> NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved that the City Council desires to make the Test <br /> Block the greenest existing urban neighborhood in the United States, the City is <br /> authorized to: <br /> <br /> 1) work with Washington University and Arcturis to design the five homes for <br /> LEED platinum certification and to be harmonious with the existing vernacular but <br /> to be forward looking in design; and <br /> <br /> 2) work with BOA Construction to insure the homes are built to the specifications <br /> of Arcturis/WU and receive the highest level of LEED certification possible, <br /> preferably Platinum; and <br />
