Regular meeting
August 29, 2005

We actually had 180 children who received school supplies this year. Lens Crafters
also provided their services. They had free eye exam screenings for the children. They
will follow them all year and give them free glasses if needed. The Police Dept. came
out and did finger printing for the children. St. Louis Health Dept came out and did
blood pressure screening and educated them on lead poisoning. Hartman’s towing took
one of their flatbeds out of service for us to use at the Soap Box Derby. I would like to
thank all of them for their support as well as Arthur Sharpe, Mayor Adams, and Francine
Brungardt for their support that day.

Ms. Brot wanted to thank Ms. Colquitt on the great success of the Soap Box Derby. Ms
Brot also wanted to congratulate Mr. Lehman Walker upon being invited to serve on the
2005 – 2006 American Institute of Certified Planners nominating committee. He was
one of seven members chosen nation-wide. That is a very big honor and he is to be
congratulated and we are proud of him in University City.

Mr. Wagner wanted to give Councilmember Colquitt full credit. There would not be a
Soap Box Derby if it wasn’t for Ms. Colquitt. Mr. Wagner said that Ms. Colquitt makes it
happen and she has made it happen every year. It doesn’t just happen by accident. It
is a lot of hard work. Thank you Sandy for doing it.

Ms. Brungardt gave public thanks to the Police Dept. that will be graduating their
second group from the Police Academy this coming Wednesday. She felt that this is an
extremely important program and looks forward to its growth and continuance and
inclusion of a large number of citizens. She could go on and on about how important it
is to build citizen police relationships.

Mr. Sharpe commented on Night Out for Crime. This was very valuable for us in
University City. Neighbors were able to get together, talked together, worked together
and it was a fantastic, absolutely marvelous concept that was carried out.

Mayor Adams also wanted to acknowledge that one of our synagogues, Shaare Zedek
th
on Hanley, celebrated their 100 anniversary of existence

Next Regular Session of our City Council will be September 19, 2005, 6:30 p.m., at the
City Council Chambers or The City Library. Seeing no other business, we are going
back into Executive Session, dealing with personnel. This part of the meeting was
adjourned at 8:45 p.m.

Motion was made by Ms. Welsch to go into Executive Session to deal with real estate
and personnel 610.02 (2 &3). It was seconded by Ms. Brot.
Poll of the Council
Ayes: Ms. Colquitt, Ms. Brungardt, Mr. Wagner, Ms. Brot, Ms. Welsch, Mr. Sharpe, and
Mayor Adams.

Page 12
