To: Julie Feier, City Manager <br />From: Charity Frost, Administrative Intern <br />Date: November 17, 2009 <br />Subject: Youth Job Corp <br />Program Specifics <br />Students work in teams with oversight/guidance from Youth Coordinator. Teams work <br />two days per week from 2:30-5:30. There are two proposed structures: one that lasts <br />50wks/year and another that has two 13 week sessions. Separate summer <br />programming could be created if desired and funds were available. Teams on Schedule <br />A work on Mondays & Wednesdays, and teams on Schedule B works Tuesdays & <br />Thursdays. No Friday work to help encourage good work attendance habits. <br />Project Expenses might include: <br />- program t-shirts/work shirts for participants (2 each, to be worn at work) <br />- program hats <br />- equipment – rakes, shovels, work gloves, etc. <br />- various trainings for participants (if costs apply) <br />Work Students Could Complete: <br />Various outdoor/landscaping/clean up projects in tandem with public works, parks and <br />rec., and U City in Bloom. Filing, data entry, and other office projects could also be <br />incorporated. <br />Programming Should Incorporate: <br />A Defined Set of Core Competencies for Participants to Attain: <br />- Academic Skills <br />- Vocational Skills <br />- Technological Skills (Computer Use/Training, etc.) <br />- Life Skills (can be tailored to group) <br /> <br />
