<br />To: Honorable Mayor Adams and Council <br />From: Julie Feier, City Manager <br />Date: February 26, 2010 <br />Subject: Weekly Update <br />Wilson FEMA buyout <br />County Councilmember Erby will host a small gathering for the <br />applicants on Wednesday, March 3 at the County Council office, 41 S. Central, at 6:00 <br />PM with representatives from Congressman Clay’s office. Congressman Clay is <br />forwarding invitations directly to the impacted individuals. There will also be a meeting <br />forthcoming regarding FEMA flood mapping on March 17at the County. <br />Olive Boulevard activity <br />Council requested an update on -there has been so much <br />work completed on Olive that summarizing the documents would not do them justice. <br />Since the completion of the 2005 Comprehensive Plan update, staff completed the <br />Olive Boulevard Land Use Study, Olive Boulevard Implementation Plan, and the North <br />and South Design Charrette. The economic development target areas and subsidy <br />policies have been updated, and Council implemented the Joint Task Force with <br />Olivette. A summary from Acting Director Riganti is attached along with copies of the <br />referenced documents. In addition to the documents attached, the TIF Commission and <br />LCRA have made tremendous strides in acquisition of property on Olive. The marketing <br />strategy for the area as a whole as well as the program for the City’s properties is also <br />underway. <br />Youth Employment Program (YEP) <br />The Youth Job Corp program, now the is currently <br />seeking adult volunteers from the community. Volunteers will serve as positive role <br />models to youth participants while working alongside them on community initiatives. If <br />you are interested in volunteering, please call 505-8603. The (paid) Volunteer <br />Coordinator position has received almost 100 applications, which are currently under <br />review. Interviews will take place during the week of March 8-12. A volunteer job <br />description has been crafted and advertisements for various media outlets, flyers and <br />billboards have been created. We are currently in the process of getting those <br />advertisements out to the public for recruitment purposes. The attached volunteer job <br />description and a brief program description will be placed on the City website shortly to <br />help with the recruitment process. <br />Enhancing quality of life by improving transportation options! <br />On Friday, March <br />26, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, there will be policy maker and practitioner sessions and lunch <br /> <br />
