Google Broadband Competition: You have probably all heard about the competition
Google initiated for cities and individuals to express an interest in having Google select
their city for an experimental city to receive broadband access throughout the
community. If not, here is a link to an article about this
http:Ilwww.govtech.comlgtlarticles1750498. As you will read in the article,1,100 cities
submitted applications. Gne of the criteria was a population of 50,000. Staff did meet
with area municipalities to discuss a joint application. However, because the area is
already served by two companies with high-speed access, and none of the cities in this
area control underground utilities we were not optimistic about the likelihood of an
award. We will continue to keep an eye on the project and hope for much success in its
future application in this region.
Mark your calendar for the upcoming U City in Bloom Plant Sale-April 24 & 25!
Friday, April 30, from 8 AM to 5 PM Trailnet will host a Livable St. Louis Conference
go to http:Ilwww.trailnet.orgllivableconference.phpmore information.
Upcoming Meetings:
Monday, April 12 5:30 PM Study Session, Review Community Development
Permitting
6:30 PM Council Meeting
Thursday, April 15 6:30 PM Full Budget Study Session
Monday, April 19: 6:00 PM Budget Town Hall Meeting with City Staff
Thursday, April 22 6:30 PM Full Budget Study Session
Monday, May 3 6:30 PM Council Meeting
Friday, May 14 5:30 PM Goal Setting Session, Green Center
Saturday, May 15 9:30 AM Goal Setting Session, Green Center
Monday, May 17 6:30 PM Council Meeting
Attachments:
FY 11 Draft Budget-Preliminary Projected Revenue & Expenditures
Letter from Mid County
Charter Cable Correspondence
Creating Whole Communities Flyer
St. Louis American Article RE: Mayor's Appointment
Community Development Updates North and SouthlGlive}
Public Works Week-in-Review ~Ioop streetscape update}
NLC Research Brief, Views of Public Engagement
Info RE: Local Jobs for America Act
Beekeeper Article
Legislative Updates
Park Fee Follow Up
GIS Strategic Implementation Plan
April 12 Study Session Agenda RE: Community Development Permitting
April 12 Draft Council Agenda
Council ai~acl~menfs are available upon requesf by contacfing Deanna Townson of
505-853 ~ or a~townson uclfymo. org
