To: Honorable Mayor Welsch and Council
From: Julie Feier, City Manager
Date: April 30, 2010
Subject: Weekly Update
Congratulations to Assistant City Manager Petree Eastman on receiving the
Outstanding Assistant of the Year Award from the Missouri City Management
Association.
This week Eastman was awarded with the most prestigious honor in her
field. Ms. Eastman has been with the City of University City since April of 2007. While
the award is very competitive, Ms. Eastman’s regional leadership put her application
over the top. Her educational background includes a Bachelors Degree from Webster
University, a Law Degree from St. Louis University and a Masters in City Planning from
the University of California-Berkeley. She also brings with her decades of community
service. Ms. Eastman’s actions are without question those of an individual with the
highest moral and professional standards. She is driven internally by a desire to serve
the public. Thank you for your commitment to the City of University City.
Congratulations to the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Director Nancy
MacCartney for securing a grant from the Department of Natural Resources
. The
Land and Water Conservation Fund grant will provide the funds to provide playground
renovation at Mooney Park. The applications were very competitive. While there were
$1.1 million in requests made, $647,245 will be granted among 12 cities/school districts.
The grant will cover $75,000 of the $166,000 project. MacCartney has earned nearly
$1.5 million in grants for the City during my tenure alone. Many thanks were expressed
to MacCartney for identifying and utilizing grant funds to the greatest extent possible on
behalf of the residents.
The songbirds of Heman Park and the band concerts on the main stage will not be the
Festival of University City--on Saturday, June 19
only musical enjoyment during the
from 11:00 AM-7:00 PM.
Five whimsically decorated pianos will be stationed around
Heman Park for spontaneous free play during the day. Designed by local artists, each
piano will be available for purchase via silent auction with the winning bidders
announced at the close of the Festival. The dog piano on display at Centennial
Commons is fantastic and I just saw a photo of a ballerina piano that would knock the
ballet shoes off any young lady. They are exceptional pieces of art! For more
information, contact Tom McCarthy 505-8612 (tmccarthy@ucitymo.org).
