, David Friedman
Former U-City resident, lived in University City from 1958 until
his death in 1980. His family lived in the Loop until1965. He had many
exhibitions at the University City Library. His daughter, Miriam, is offering to
donate art work to the City because her father enjoyed roaming the back streets
to capture the diverse moods of the city and this particular series of about a
dozen drawings and 3 paintings. The drawings are not framed and therefore, not
ready for exhibition. I don't know if the U City Hall has exhibition space. Ms.
Friedman’s stipulations are that the drawings are permanently displayed as well
as a description about her father. She would also hope to have the cost of
transportation, conservation and framing of the drawing to be covered. Please
provide me with your suggestions for this generous donation. I’ve spoken with
Linda Ballard at the Library, but we have no definitive solution at this time. I’ve

attached one of Mr. Friedman’s sketches and his bio.

Elected and Appointed Official Training Opportunity:
Monday August 21 at 6:30 PM in Council Chambers elected and appointed
officials are welcome to attend a training session on the City’s insurance
coverage--How it works, when and who is covered and opportunities for a
question and answer session with Steve Wicker Director of St. Louis Area
Insurance Trust. City Attorney John Mulligan will present on various components
of the Missouri Sunshine Law and also be available for specific questions. There
will be handouts, so if you can’t make the meeting but would like the information
please let me know.

Planning issues
There are a number of which will appear on your August
agendas. To begin preparing for those meetings I have attached draft bills for
your review and comment. I have requested the City Clerk post a public hearing
for the rezoning of the School District’s property on Delcrest to expedite the
process.

th
To assist me in preparing for the August 28 study session, please forward
any ideas or concerns regarding the Council Work Rules of Order by
th
August 17. I will summarize and share them back with Council in advance.

Upcoming Meetings and Events:
Monday, July 31: 6:30 PM Kurt Odenwald’s Town Hall Forum at the
Crown Center
Tuesday, August 1: 6:00 PM National Night Out Celebration: Heman Park
Monday, August 14: 5:30 Study Session on Tree Ordinance
6:30 PM Council Meeting
Monday, August 21: 6:30 PM Elected and Appointed Official Training
Monday, August 28: 5:30 PM Study Session on Council Rules of Order
6:30 PM Council Meeting
Tuesday Sept 12: 6:30 PM SD Closing or alternative building usage
